COLUMBUS, Ohio -- An announcement regarding increased incentive payments, state bonuses and additional practices for landowners and farmers in the Lake Erie Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program
(CREP) Watershed will be made Tuesday, Sept. 19, at the Farm Science Review.
John Stevenson, Ohio Farm Service Agency (FSA) State Executive Director, and Larry Adams, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Farm Service Agency Assistant Deputy Administrator for Farm Programs, will make the announcement at 2 p.m. in the Vice President's Tent at the Molly Caren Agricultural Center in London, Ohio.
The Lake Erie CREP Amendment will enhance 27 northwestern Ohio counties in the Lake Erie CREP watershed and increase environmental benefits within the Great Lakes National Conservation Priority Area.
On Sept. 19, officials will explain who is eligible for the Lake Erie CREP and when producers and landowners can visit their FSA county office and sign up for the program. In addition, officials will announce the goals for the Lake Erie CREP Watershed.
CREP is a voluntary land retirement program that helps agricultural producers protect environmentally sensitive land, decrease erosion, restore wildlife habitat, and safeguard ground and surface water. The program is a partnership among producers, federal and state governments, and, in some cases, private groups.
